see Forum Guidelines

PHP

pro's : easy , clean , fast , extensible
con's : not the best choice for implementations outside the web server (eg : shell or system)

Apache

pro's : powerfull , secure , fast , extensible , standards compliant
con's : powerfull enough to shoot yourself in the foot if illiterate

MYSQL

pro's : fast , fast , clean , basic
con's : too basic for extremely complex scenarios

The greatest reason for the success of all these 3 programs and especially their AMP combination in my opinion is the powerfull simplicity they all provide

... and the price per performance can't be beat!
Very Happy

I used IIS for awhile, and grew very tired of everything costing (including upgrades). The only things that seem to be free for IIS was infact other opensource apps (Php and the likes). Not to mention IIS has a longer rate of open severe bugs, where Apache has a very fast development rate, the same holds for php/asp, mysql/mssql. When I found out the ease of use, power of the software and cost of operations in comparison I chose a WAMP, and never looked back.
