Yes i have a router, a linksys wrt54gs i have checked thru every setting option there in for it, nothing is set for port forwarding, as for the isp its
NTL (now Virgin) and have no idea if they block port 80,

could i change from port 80 and user another port instead?
if so this could confim/deny if the isp is blocking 80, as if i can connect via a different port, one would assume the isp is blocking 80, if however, if it still doesnt connect, then i think it would be safe to assume the problem is with my settings somewhere,
so how do i change the default port to some thing elce other than 80 and which port to choose81, 82??

so you have not forwarded port 80?

Click the Applications & Gaming link near the top of the page.
You should now see a new menu. In this new menu, click Port Range Forward.

No i haven't forwarded port 80, all of the boxes are empty in router Applications and gaming configuration menu. and DMZ is disabled

so i tried to set the router to port foward to 192.168.1.100 (my internal ip)
like so:-
Application Start End Protocol IP Address Enable
80 80 both 192.168.1.100 y
443 443 both 192.168.1.100 y
20 21 both 192.168.1.100 y
25 25 both 192.168.1.100 y
110 110 both 192.168.1.100 y
and also enabled DMZ
Still got the same problem i can connect locally but not thu the external external ip 82....... or via andrewstephens.homelinux.com

just checked my isps terms and conditions, i found no mention of blocked ports, how ever i did find this:-

"You confirm and warrant that you are the owner of, and that you have obtained all necessary consents to use, the domain name, mailbox name or any other name selected by you in connection with the Internet access."

which would indicate to me that i can host my own site

so all i can think of is sygate firewall is the problem, so i treied to connect with the firewall set to allow all.... again no joy Sad
